PULSCO receives GOLD Boeing Performance Excellence Award!
It isn't very often that I get to share something that I can consider exciting. Let's face it we're an engineering company with a several niche markets; none of which allow us the opportunity to advertise or market in the traditional sense so any chance we get the ability to shine is good news, just like with anyone else, it feels good to be recognized. So needless to say, I was very encouraged when this news came in from the company President yesterday afternoon.
PULSCO has received a 2009 Boeing Performance Excellence Award. The Boeing Company issues the award annually to recognize suppliers who have achieved superior performance. PULSCO maintained a GOLD composite performance rating for each month of the 12-month performance period, from Oct. 1, 2008, to Sept. 30, 2009.
This year, Boeing recognized 486 suppliers who achieved either a Gold or Silver level Boeing Performance Excellence Award. PULSCO is one of only 128 suppliers to receive the Gold level of recognition. PULSCO supplies the pulsation dampener 840002-074 for the Boeing 737 aircraft.
Performance excellence is fundamental to the success of PULSCO, ATCo and its customers. Congratulations to the employees of PULSCO and ATCo for their dedication to high performance standards in quality and delivery to meet our customer’s expectations. This is the second year PULSCO has received the Boeing Performance Excellence Award, and the first year to receive the GOLD award. I want to also extend my gratitude to Tom Huntzinger, Alice Buczek, and the ATCo manufacturing and assembly teams for all their hard work this past year.
This is great news because PULSCO received the Silver level award from Boeing in 2008. It looks to me like we're getting 2010 off to a good start by reaping the rewards from a solid performance in 2009. Congratulations and thanks to everyone at PULSCO for doing a great job.

Inbound Marketing and social networks
Today I attended another webinar sponsored by HubSpot and re-enforcing what I've been reading and seeing about the subject of SEO. I think the word is "footprint", I've got to create a larger footprint on the web, serving up that all important content that users and folks on the web are seeking. Again the challenge for me is making things exciting and interesting. What a journey and a task! A quick search on Twitter for the keyword Water-hammer pulled up a fair number of tweets but one in particular caught my eye, a story about a recent deadly Powerplant blast accident in Russia attributed to Water-Hammer or as the story reported the Kremlin's official statement, Hydraulic Impact . If your interested here are photos as well, Russian Powerplant blast photos . I learned two things with this excercise, the importance and benefits to utlizing social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook for improving web presence. And because the Twitter excercise didn't produce any results for the other keywords we anticipate users or customers would search for that clearly indicates that right now this world is wide open and ripe for the taking.

Branding, Branding, Branding and more Branding
I've been able to succcessfully create a company store using Land's End store building option. I am in the process of creating two more storefronts using both Zazzle and CafePress. I'm choosing to use three because even though most offer similar type merchandise each one will obviously bring some slight variation to certain items and I want to be able to take advantage of that option and give our shoppers that choice as well. Pretty soon I hope to see nothing but our PULSCO icon throughout the free world, well at least in the office I hope.
Wikipedia social networking
I just discovered Google's Knol Knol beta website thanks to WebPro News story last week. Wow, I guess this makes a great opportunity to get some involvement from the engineering department in creating content that showcases PULSCO authority in the areas that we are stongest in. Perhaps I'm being naive or simple in my approach but keeping it simple sometimes does seem to be the best solution and in this case it is my initial reaction and perhaps it is too obvious. But what could be more clearer? Someone needs a solution to a problem.- steam noise in their piping system, water-hammer issues at the pump station, hydraulic pressure, whatever, but what do I do about it right? Well let's begin with a websearch. Type in Surge, pressure and there's PULSCO, but they seem to come up with search engine results in websites other than the company website. Some of these links seem to point to various articles or whitepapers on other sites, they must know what they are talking about. Right? Well as I've said before we'll see how this goes and hopefully it will work out. Besides it is Google and whatever doesn't kill you only boosts your rankings.

Site updates
I'm happy to report that the PULSCO Patents page is now up and live on the website. The patents page can be looked at from two different perspectives, I happen to believe that they are very much what I would consider to be historical documents. Helping to solidify and establish PULSCO's current position in the industry. If you have a moment take a look at some of the ideas that were submitted.

Another Week, Blogging and Marketing Hydropnuematic Bladder Systems
Happy late Monday afternoon to you. I have to be honest here, I'm not sure I can write anything about Hydropneumatic Bladder Systems right now. Don't get me wrong, a good conversation about when and why you would want to use a bladder system to handle whatever issues are going on in the system right now are right up there but it has been a sad week for many and now with the passing of Billy Mays yesterday well, it's getting to be a bit much. Since I know I'm definitely dissappointing many I won't make any false promises as to when to expect these entries, just know that they'll be coming down soon.

A Full Week And Counting
Today's entry will be a short one and it also marks a full week since my first entry here. Yesterday's experiment has been sidetracked for a short period because I encountered a small problem in claiming this Blog but next week has many possibilities and perhaps will see me figuring the whole thing out.
I realize life and time are in short supply, as yesterday's passing of Michael Jackson goes to prove once again that we truly never know how long we've got to get things accomplished. So on that note I'll say that I've got this Blog up and running, I'll see if I can start adding some technical items here soon to help you, the dear reader understand a bit more about what it is that PULSCO does. Perhaps one day I may even add a comments feature to allow my whole audience some input. Hope all have a great safe and happy weekend.

SEO and Blogs
I continue in my quest to help drive traffic to the PULSCO website. I don't know how many of you out there are fortunate enough to have come across a great tool to gauge your SEO endeavors but some months ago I discovered a neat website company called HUBSPOT . And now you see, I've made myself another little challenge - to see just how much I can improve our websites grade according to their algorithm. I'm not doing too bad I guess, I was able to raise our initial grade of an 11 up to its current grade of 41 by following a few of their suggestions. Because having a relevant company website Blog is another one of their suggested methods I've taken another step towards legitimizing PULSCO in the world of Blogs. Of course if you have a Blog well you've got to be listed in Technorati and in order to make it legit (or at least that's my impression of it) a part of the process to get listed or to officially claim the blog is to do this dg2brj38ah.
I will follow up later on today to see if this helps out our grade. In the mean time I will try to figure out how to make Water Hammer or Fluid Hammer an interesting enough subject to Blog about. Actually it's really sort of interesting if you do stop and happen to think about it. In a sort of Addams Family, Gomez kind of way. Trains crashing and stuff.

Can I Make An Engineering Company Sexy?
I've given myself a new challenge; make an engineering company sexy. I admit that by nature I'm a hardcore pessimist, perhaps it is because I often decide to do things like trying to convert a discipline such as engineering into something that it isn't. Engineers by nature are a different breed than most, of course the same can be said about any group of humans that share anything in particular, but where most are not trained with the ability to build a better mouse trap, engineers make that their bread and butter. Engineers don't want to waste time being fed marketing jargon like most consumers. So where a beautiful women can perhaps sway someone to purchase an overly expensive car or a cheap awful can of beer - that same gorgeous example of perfection should not (by normal reasoning) be able to sell a much needed Surge Tank, even if it is the much needed piece of a million dollar puzzle. Anyway, I'll give it a good try and see what happens. The marketing world I'm sure is littered with the bones of failed campaigns and who knows, perhaps I'll be much the wiser for it.
